Bioswale Project

A group of us (Jennie Morgan, Beth Fry, Amanda Nahlik, Stephanie Lansing, and Christopher Tomsic)  along with some push from Dr. William Mitsch got together to design a bioswale/vegetated swale to treat parking lot runoff water that enters the Olentangy River Wetlands.  Dr. Mitsch was concerned that the water that runs off the parking lot (which most likely contains hydrocarbons and a bunch of other nasty stuff) could potentially do some sort of harm to the wetlands.  Our group organized a 1 credit hour class this quarter (WI06) to design and ultimately build the swale.  At this time, the project is in its infancy.  We have conducted some preliminary site analysis to determine how we are going to design the swale.  Frequent updates will be made to this page to keep ya'll updated.  If anyone  feels that they have some good information to help the group out please email the listserv ecoesociety@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu.
