EES Student Activities

Past EES Projects and activities

The Oasis project
A stream reconnaissance and restoration project that went into oblivion after losing hope of funding.  We did get some fun experience in doing stream reconnaissance, surveying, soil sampling, and design practice.

Earth day
We designed an educational display on ecological footprints for the OSU Earth Day celebration.  Not many people showed up, but who cares, we got to sit outside and enjoy the wonderful spring weather.

Tour of Franklin Park Conservatory
Our group got a "behind the scenes" tour of the Franklin Park Conservatory, a place that houses unique plant collections in four greenhouse climate zones.  Afterwards, we enjoyed seeing the annual butterfly exhibit.

AEES conference in Maryland
The American Ecological Engineering Society's annual conferences is an event to not miss.  Aside from a plethora of fascinating presentations and seminars, the conference boasts some wild, after-hours fun.

Wetland planting at the ORW
As a service to the community and stewardship towards the environment, we helped with the leadership and labor of a community planting effort at the newly build wetland facilities at the Olentangy River Wetlands (ORW).

Wetland plant identification group study
Some of us spent part of the summer of 2003 learning how to identify aquatic plants

AEES Conference at The Ohio State University
The American Ecological Engineering Society's held its 2005 annual conference on the campus of OSU.

Storm Drain Marking around the OSU campus
The OSU chapter of Ecological Engineering teamed up with SECOR International Incorporated to conduct a campus wide storm drain marking adventure.  The process brought us closer as a group, maybe it was from the fumes of the glue.

Dr. Jay Martin's infamous Mardi Gras party

The pictures speak for themselves.  Let's say that this is one great party with a fair mix of student and faculty having a great time.

Future or Scheduled Activities

Bioswale Project at the ORW
The OSU chapter of Ecological Engineering has teamed up with Dr. William Mitsch to design a bioswale on the grounds of the Olentangy River Wetland complex.  The bioswale will hopefully function to treat runoff from the parking lot before water reaches the wetlands and ultimately the river.  The project has been created into a 10 week class where certain members of the group will receive 1 credit hour of work for their participation in the project.  Thanks Dr. Mitsch.

Happy hours. Here are maps of possible locations, but email us for details

Monthly meeting at 219 Agricultural Engineering building on campus, 5:30pm (time may change periodically)
